Taekwondo is a martial art that originated in Korea but now has become a worldwide phenomenon and has evolved into an Olympic sport. Taekwondo combines combat and self-defence techniques with sport. Taekwondo is the most popular martial art worldwide and has a wide range of practitioners ranging from young children to senior citizens.
Both the Kyorugi and Poomsae events will be competed at the 29th SEA Games in 2017. Kyorugi is the combat event involving sparring between two athletes. Poomsae on the other hand, is the demonstrative, non combative pattern
event, where athletes will be required to present selected Poomsaes or patterns.
The Kyorugi contest consist of 3 rounds of two minutes each for each bout whereas each poomsae contest last between 30-90 seconds.
