To start a game of pētanque, a player may stand or squat in a designated circle. From this position, the player with both feet firmly on the ground has to toss or roll the hollow metal ball ‘boule’ as close as possible to a small wooden ball called ‘cochonnet’ or ‘jack’.
The first player or team to score 13 points will be declared the winner. The game is normally played on hard earth surface or gravel. It can be played in public areas such as parks or in dedicated facilities called boulodrome
The game consists of seven events; the men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, men’s triples, women’s tripples and mixed doubles.
