Ice skating is the newest sport in the SEA Games. It will generate history and legacy in the games as the first ever winter sports in a summer games. It is the recreation and sport of gliding across an ice surface on blades fixed to the bottoms of the boots (skates). Figure Skating Single Skating is one of the most popular sports in the world. The combination of grace and athleticism needed to perform the steps, spins, and jumps while staking on blades on the ice often captures the imagination when world-class skaters make it look so easy. Of course, performing at the world level is anything but easy, and it requires years of discipline, training and practice. Short Track Speed Skating or the Ice Racing takes place on a 111.12 metre oval track on a rink measuring 30 metre by 60 metre, which is the same size as international sized ice hockey rink. It is a form of competitive ice speed skating. Because the corners of the oval track are tight, the speed skate has been modified to maintain high speed and control in the turns. A total of 8 events will be featured at the 29th SEA Games namely two (2) Figure Skating (Men and Ladies) and six (6) Short Track Speed Skating (500m, 1000m and 3000m relay for both Men and Ladies).
